the worship space

I am sitting on the oak wooden floor in the main hall of the building that our Church has been meeting in for 15 years. Over the decades this floor has had myriad pairs of feet pass over it. It’s remained solid for weddings and parties, soaked up the overflow of celebration, caught tears of mourning at funerals and, for the last decade and a half, has been one of my worship spaces. There are places now worn where thousands of worshipers have gathered, danced, knelt and travailed in prayer. In this......

Tranquility is the New Transformation

We have all felt the overwhelming societal pressure to “stay busy”, whether it be during these times, or before. Many of us have been furloughed from work and now have less of a rigid agenda to akin to. This allows us to carve out space for a new daily routine, one that can hit pause on life and re-connect with our Lord.  I know some of us have kids and that can definitely keep us pretty busy. Or some of us are keyworkers and now have even less time to relax. But......

5 Top Tips to Stay Mentally Healthy During COVID-19

Staying mentally well during this time is very important to us all. Roman chapter 12:2 states; and be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by renewing your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. My name is Sharon, alongside being a proud member of COM Church, I am a Senior Mental Health Nurse Practitioner working in Bedfordshire. My primary role is supporting individuals and families experiencing mental health difficulties and I would like to share with you some activities you......

A World In Fear

I was 20 years old and a member of a Church youth group. I was occasionally asked to participate in the regular Sunday evening Church Gospel meeting by preaching a sermon. One of the Church elders, Mr Dennett I believe his name was, had invited me and a couple of my friends to his home to receive some training in public speaking. Our first lesson was an evening I still remember vividly, November 22, 1963.   We were together in Mr Dennett’s home office, which was upstairs in his house. As I recall,......

Updated Response to the Corona Virus (Covid-19) Pandemic (30/03/20)

After reviewing Government guidelines, all COM Church’s physical meetings have been moved online until further notice. We are currently permitted to have an SLT member and key staff attend our building for the purpose of live broadcasting. We are following all health and safety recommendations in relation to hygiene and stopping the spread of this viral infection. Our website has never been more important. All our events are there, all our ministry resources are there, and you can stream us live from there. We are improving our social media platforms, and launching......

Responding to Corona Virus (COVID-19)

COM Church is very closely monitoring the situation with the novel Coronavirus. We are alert but not anxious. Currently our advice from the World Health Organisation is to continue as normal with a greater attention to personal hygiene. We will continue to review WHO instructions. At this time, the only reason not to attend Church as normal, is if you are displaying any of the well publicised symptoms. Please let us know and we will be praying for you and your family!  Thank you all for watching out for the elderly and......

Promises - Week 1

For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Hebrews 4 v 12). What does that mean? Put most simply, it means the Bible is as relevant today as it was when it was written. Not for nothing is the Bible often described as The LIVING Word. Even those parts which were written a few thousand years ago have purpose for us today. How do we know......

Relaunch 2020

Do any of you remember a television character who always turned up when somebody was in the middle of a job and said “You don’t want to do it like that, do it like this.”? I particularly remember the character because I knew somebody just like him. He would come around, perhaps when I had some music playing, and suddenly make a sucking sound with his teeth or whatever else was in use, and then inform me there was something wrong with the cassette player (this is pre CD or streaming of course) which used to drive me crazy; because he did it......

Travelling Light

When, in 1959, Cliff Richard (now Sir Cliff) sang one of his earliest hit records, Travelling Light, he wasn’t on the same page as Pastor Julian at COM Church, Dunstable, when Julian made this the title for his New Year message to the Church. Whereas Cliff was only taking “one comb, one toothbrush” to get to see his girlfriend as quickly as possible, Julian was thinking more about the commission Jesus gave His disciples, when He sent them out with the words from Mark 6 vs 7-13, take nothing for the journey,......
